2025

2025

I'll just say that 2025 has gotten off to a rocky start.

My plan to have set up the shop with several new tools and a new ribbon-burner forge have not gone to plan. I haven't fired up the forge a single time this year, and this post will address that.

At the start of 2024 I decided to take on knife-making as a hobby. I had a location that would allow me to build out a respectable hobby shop. As soon as I built my first forge (using a Frosty-T style burner) I was hooked. My first knives were less than spectacular, but it didn't matter. I knew that this would be the hobby I'd purse until old-age decided otherwise.

I spent the year making knives under the roadrunnerknives.com banner (named after roadrunner drive, a road near the house I lived in.) and gradually improved. Late last year I knew that I'd be moving, unsure of exactly where though. Oklahoma has been both kind, and wicked, and I'll carry the good memories with me to the new location, which is going to be in Ohio.

I'm moving back to Ohio, not terribly far from where I grew up, the shop will be smaller but I'm looking forward to getting started. I already have a Coal Ironworks forging press waiting for me there.

So next weekend I'll make the long drive, and say my farewells to the state that I've lived in for the last four years, it's bittersweet but life goes on, and it will be fantastic to live close to family once again.

The purpose of this post is primarily to motivate me to immediately start forging once I unload the moving truck, and get those creative juices flowing once again. I'm the kind of person that sometimes needs a nudge to get moving.

This post is that nudge.
